Going green entered librarianship around the 2000s, although sustainable architecture began in the 1970s. More recently, the ALA adopted sustainability as a core principle of librarianship. The principle speaks to the economic and social, and environmental sustainability that relies on all three to succeed. Internationally, there is a green shift at libraries spanning multiple countries. Each library can advance environmental sustainability through a green program, service, or even building renovation. The report will dive into the origins of sustainability, emerging trends and technologies in green libraries, and examples of green services, programs, and buildings from different countries.
