Here’s my plan for implementing a Program Series called Digital Art Days

  • Hi Joyce!

It would be great to have Digital Art Days at TPL! My project is similar but focuses on a mobile maker space for non DIH branches as sometimes it is hard for people to get out to them. Kind of like PULL but more craft oriented… I also feel like there is never enough time to explore when you are learning a new technology. So later I was thinking of the model they are using for Seniors Digital Literacy course where it happens twice a week, first session is a lesson, the second is more of a work period. In the case of creative exploration, the library could become like an art studio for those taking part in the program. They learn something new, step away for a few days, return with some ideas and get to work. Library staff is there if they need help but no lesson is taught.

    • I just took a look at your project, I really liked the idea of a creative social gathering for adults and older adults, where they also learn how to use the Cricut! I think it would be awesome for our libraries to feel like art studios for these kinds of programs. So many people who don’t have the space or money would benefit from these opportunities to express their creativity.

  • Hi Joyce!

This is a really cool idea. Many of these professional softwares are increasingly inseparable from modern artistic practice, and yet they can be very intimidating, not to mention expensive. Being able to try them out in a pressure-free environment can help a lot to alleviate this. I also thought your presentation was very thoughtfully laid out and easily guides us through your thought process and planning.

    • Thanks for your comment Ian. While at work, I’ve hear many people talk about how they feel intimidated to use creative softwares. There’s a lot to learn and can feel overwhelming. My hope is that people can feel welcome enough to join in on beginner classes and eventually use the technology the library offers themselves.

  • Hi @joyce287, you’ve put together a really great presentation. It’s clear and easy to understand, I love the animation! Like @daisychia mentions, I’d also love a Digital Art Days at my local library! I think it’s great that within the Participation and Conduct slide you mention that participants “create what they want, how they want.” This is important in a creative enviornment.

    • Hi Ali, I think so many of our libraries can benefit to have some form of a Digital Art or creativity program! Thanks so much for your kind feedback!
