Hello everyone!<\/span><\/p>\n

My name is Alisha!<\/span><\/p>\n

I am a Southern California native based in the Inland Empire. I hold a BA in Communications with a focus on Radio, TV, and Film from California State University and previously worked in marketing for 10 years before deciding to go back to school for my master\u2019s in MLIS and pivot in my career. This is my last year in the program, which I have to admit has passed by more quickly than I anticipated. During my time in the program, I have also had the pleasure of being involved in student group leadership for both SAASC and SLASC (now SLIP).<\/span><\/p>\n

Initially, my areas of interest within the LIS world were archives and academic librarianship. A few months ago, I was hired for my first LIS-related job as a library assistant at a public library, and I have to say, public librarianship was at the bottom of my LIS list. But boy, has it changed my mind about public librarianship! It\u2019s a role that continuously pulls on my heartstrings and brings me so much joy. It is also the first role I\u2019ve had where I truly feel like I am making a difference that helps and benefits others. I am now leaning toward possibly staying in public librarianship, but again, nothing is set in stone. If I\u2019ve learned anything over the last 10 years of my life, it\u2019s that sometimes you\u2019ll be amazed and pleasantly surprised by the places you end up.<\/span><\/p>\n

Which leads me to why I chose to take this course. I had not taken any courses dedicated specifically to public librarianship, and I thought this would be a great opportunity to help me become a better public library steward and better serve patrons. I am very interested in learning how to create library services that are driven by community and connection, and I think this course will definitely be one I\u2019ll be happy to add to my toolbox as a library professional. Additionally, I chose this course because I previously had Dr. Stephens and really enjoyed the way his courses are organized, as well as the support and compassion he infuses into them.<\/span><\/p>\n

I am excited for this semester and to be surprised by what I learn! Truly, every semester I find that I learn so much from my peers, and that always excites me. In general, I am finding that people in the LIS field are so willing to share their knowledge and resources, which is another reason I am loving this field. People just genuinely want to help people. And also, to be completely honest, I am excited to have a much lighter load this semester!<\/span><\/p>\n

The pictures below are from my visit this summer to Frank Lloyd Wright\u2019s studio and home in Scottsdale, Arizona, called Taliesin West<\/a>. It\u2019s been one of those places on my \u201cmust-see\u201d list. I highly recommend it for any architecture aficionados, but I don\u2019t recommend visiting during the summer. The heat was intense! The upside, though, is that the crowds are quite light. I basically had the place to myself when I toured it, which was a very memorable experience!<\/span><\/p>\n
