Inspiration Report: Legacy Technology Lab

Media Archaeology Lab

What if the only copy of a very important document was saved on a floppy disk? What if you wanted to scrub the internet of your *ahem* fun undergraduate days (but maybe store those photos for your own collection)?

The Legacy Media Lab is inspired in some ways by work that is already being done. I have synthesized several existing programs to create a dream digital media lab. This lab serves as the central hub for some very unique program offerings.

With this inspiration report, I want to focus on Tech & Trends and Infinite Learning.

The Power of Libraries Reflection Blog: The People’s Library

People sitting around a table..
The Human Library

This module resonated the most with me thus far. I consider myself to be a library evangelist, who spreads to gospel to anyone who would be willing to listen. My feelings about the library’s role in society were summed up perfectly in an article I read while completing my MLIS, The Public Library: The People’s Library?

New Models Reflection Blog: How Can We Change, Yet Remain the Same?

I consider myself to be forward-thinking. Yet, my foundations remain centered and grounded. My librarianship journey has been an interesting one. I have worked in small, rural libraries in Alabama and large, urban library systems in Colorado. As I reviewed the New Models portion of this model, I was taken back to my experiences in the Denver Metro. I would always ask one question: “Yes, but why?”.

Hyperlinked Environments Reflection Blog: Choose Your Own Adventure

Thinking back to my previous post, it is important to not harm.  When we engage with our communities and introduce them to new hyperlinked environments, we must do so in a way that is considerate and ethical.

After reviewing this module, I have one specific environment in mind. Actually, although this module is titled Hyperlink Environments, one common synonym is Ecosystem. Much like ecosystems of the animal kingdom, technology ecosystems are interactive and responsive to stimuli.

Hyperlinked Communities Reflection Blog: Primum Non Nocere

The concept of hyperlinked communities is an interesting one. The library serves as a central hub, with many ports connected to the community. Much like the information highway, information flows out from this central hub. Connection to new technologies can be a powerful thing. But…are we aware of the power this connection wields?

My Intro

Hello all!

My name is Ron Harris. I currently reside in Raleigh, North Carolina. One important fact about me is that I am notoriously bad at naming things. Thus, my blog is titled A Blog With No Name. I have used WordPress before, but I am interested in this course because it links that previous experience with library applications.

In regards to my previous education, I hold a BA and MLIS from The University of Alabama. As part of my MLIS program, I was also a member of the EBSCO Audiovisual Archives cohort. This program allowed me to merge my love for film history with my MLIS studies.

Finally, my avatar is Chidi of The Good Place. At any given time, I feel like I am approaching his “Peeps in the chili pot” existential crisis.

Well, that’s all for now. I look forward to engaging with you all!
