I love the Milwaukee Public Library IG! I follow so many libraries, school libraries and authors. Social media is a great place for librarians to go to get new ideas and stay up on latest trends!

I am also planning a trip to Japan and believe in the power of spaces to be transformative. You might not always see good design, but you can feel its impact. Good design in the library is user-focused and supports changing patron needs. I’m going to go check out the Tama Art University Library now!

How did you approach the genrefication project? I am in an elementary school library, and I have been putting more books in bins – like “magical creatures” – and a lot of popular sections in NF are binned – like “illusions” and “how to draw.” Getting fiction to circ is my biggest challenge. I think genrefication could really help. I would love…[Read more]

Thanks for the advice and for the comment. I am an elementary school library media specialist, so I didn’t know that much about BookTok either. When I was doing my research, I realized that it had influenced me even though I am not a BookTok’er. Several books that I have read recently are BookTok books and recommended by my 19 y/o daughter.…[Read more]

Hello @zoewilliams I think it is because the video is unlisted. I went to your video on YT and grabbed the share URL and tried that above…and then one of my videos of the boys swimming. It embedded! Maybe try listing the video?

Hi Zoe. I really liked your Vlog presentation. You inspired me to do the same thing in my upcoming posts. I knew a little about BookTok, but you’ve taught me more. I am especially encouraged by BookTok’s reach to young readers, its impact on libraries, and how libraries can help promote content for all BookTok content creators. Thank you for sharing 😊.

I’m pretty sure she heard about them from TikTok. Going to ask next time I call her. 🙂

I also had to figure this out, then made a note to myself. Try this >
Embed video into Blog
Select place in post
Click Add Media button at upper left
Select “Insert from URL”
Paste the video’s URL. Not embed code.
Video appears
Click blue “Insert into post” button at lower right -
Also, please feel free to delete Billy and Samm’s video after you take a look!

Hi Zoe,
Really interesting video! BookTok has certainly affected the publishing industry, so many books have become popular through this site. My library usually has displays of popular BookTok recommendations. I appreciate that you discussed the fact that BIPOC books/creators face struggles on the site. Thanks for the suggestions on how to promote their books!-

Hi Zoe,
I really enjoyed your vlog. Thank you. I did do one booktok but never came back around to it, but I really need to. Social media is definitely the best way to reach out to my patrons. I love that it is reviving the publishing industry as well. Thank you for the reminder about booktoks!

Hi Zoe,
I enjoyed your vlog. I have an instagram and TikTok account for my library (@mvmsreads), but I am not the greatest or most consistent person on it. Your first video was great! And inspiring. The videos I have made are recorded videos with songs. We tried to do a “what to read Wednesdays” last May, but it fizzled because my middle school students didn’t want to do it. I hope, when I finish the program, I won’t feel as overwhelmed and I will be able to push social media more for my library, along with other avenues, to connect with my students and ensure I am servicing them in the way they need or want to be served.
Thank you again for sharing,

Ms. Zoe commented on the post, Assignment X-Eliminating Library Fines, on the site 2 weeks, 2 days ago
My school library also elimated fines several years ago and we have a lenient lost/replacement policy. Most families return books and reaplce books that have been lost – and those that don’t can’t do this for a variety of reasons. Our budget has been able to absorb this loss and kids are able to keep checking out!
I thought this fact in your…[Read more]

Hi Zoe,
This is so great! I wish this had been around when my son was little. Kids outgrow and grow bored of toys so easily. This is a smart solution that will curb some of that waste, as well as save parents money. This is a great example of libraries being about people!

I love this idea of Toy Libraries. I have seen this starting to become integrated at a few of the libraries I’ve worked at but nothing to this scale and it never had this name attached to it. Such a great concept and beneficial to the community. Thank you for sharing these findings.
-
Hi Zoe,
Toy libraries sound wonderful! The benefits you listed are all great points, I especially liked the note on accessibility and ‘try before you buy’. What a great community resource.
