@janine Here is a link where there are resources that help you learn how to play D&D: https://dnd.wizards.com/how-to-play
I recommend you and your family to start building characters for the game though D&D Beyond, a gaming app, since it streamlines the process. Here is the link to the app: https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/builder

@janine Yes, Stranger Things is a great show to binge through! I finished last season in a couple of days. I’m glad you and your daughter enjoyed the show. Also, this show put Dungeons and Dragons in the mainstream, now they’re a ton of players out there!

@martmart, yes! My 10 year old is now super interested in D&D. Do you have any suggestions on getting her started either us as family or how to find groups for her age level? I am a child of the 80s and D&D was forbidden in my household due to the satanic fears.

Hi Lynn, it’s good to see you again! That Harry Potter Escape Room sounds like a lot of fun, especially for the kids at your school’s library! Plus, having VR sessions for students is great way for them to stay engage and learn new technologies. I’m in the same boat as you trying to figure out which pathway to go into, but I think I’m going into…[Read more]

Hi Michele, it’s good to see you again! I am also interested in user experience, and making libraries accessible to 21st century users. Hi Michele! We were in a class together over a year ago, it was the AR/VR in libraries seminar. I hope you are doing well! I’m glad you share my interests of emerging technologies. Thank you for introducing me to the iSchool’s UX/XR initiatives. Each one sounds impressive, and I can’t wait to learn more. I appreciate your comments on my monsters.…[Read more]

Hi Kristin, I am glad to hear that you volunteer at your local library! I always wanted to volunteer at a public library because I only have experience in academic libraries. I need to start researching if my local library has a volunteer program. Thanks for inspiring me to become a volunteer.
Also, I love your dogs, they’re so cute! One of…[Read more]

Greetings, @martmart… I also share your interests in AR/VR, artificial intelligence, and the semantic web. Currently at the SJSU iSchool, we are involved in a number of UX/XR initiatives which include several immersive learning ecosystems, such as our VR Marketing Room, Seeking Immortality VR Project (language and cultural preservation for the Northern Cheyenne), and the forthcoming Banned Books Metaverse (in close partnership with the ALA and Unite Against Book Bans). I’m really enjoying your creative illustrations of “Bog Bomber” and “Biblios the Libarbarian”… Cheers!

Hi Martin,
That’s awesome that you won the contest! Did you make the illustration for the Bog Bomber or was that something they did for the winning entry? That must be so cool to get to see it officially in the book! I’m also a gamer and a DM and am deep into Baldur’s Gate 3 at the moment. My real-life group finished up our four-year D&D campaign last year (homebrew, all the way from 1-20!) and now we’re eight months into a new Pathfinder 2 campaign. I had never played PF2 before DMing for it and it’s a completely homebrew campaign, so despite having a lot of experience DMing, it’s a bit intimidating since I’m a lot less familiar with the lore and underlying mechanics. One day, I would really like to run a TTRPG program at a public library if I’m ever in a position to do so. -
Hi Martin,
I like the look of your blog!
I’m not a gamer, but my husband and all of my kids are into gaming. I’m excited to read your blog over the semester; I hope it will give me some topics to talk about with my family.
Lola is cute! I have a chihuahua mix, too. His name is Spooky!
