Hello! I found your report to be insightful, and it has inspired me to reflect on my place in this profession. I’m particularly moved by your call to action. Your points urging us to move past words and slogans to actions that will benefit our communities, particularly those who experience marginalization, was well articulated and struck a chord…[Read more]

I found you presentation very valuable! I just recently started a fiber arts drop-in program that meets monthly at my library branch, and it’s inspiring to see how that kind of program could be expanded into a larger initiative! Furthermore, I agree with you that the arts need space alongside STEM in our makerspaces and studios, and I think your…[Read more]

@nancyg96 With the project already in place throughout the city, it’s just a matter of figuring out how to take it to the libraries! I hope you can work on your own pollinator garden project in your career!

Hi Mari Carmen!
Firstly I would like to say that I appreciate that you chose to expand on something that is already present in your community, since it gives great opportunity for community building among libraries and those in charge at the various other sites around San Antonio. Your presentation is great, I love all the images that you chose and the way that you kept the themes simple. I would love to add this to my own possible project list for my future in public libraries.

@mandyluwho This was an informative and practical presentation! Libraries of Things have been one of the ideas I’ve latched on to in this course and I appreciate the work you put into making this strategy and roadmap. I would like to research further into this topic; I’ll be saving your presentation for future reference.

This was such a cool presentation! I appreciate you sharing this innovative idea about early childhood education and literacy. I can imagine how excited library staff and patrons would be to use these fun robots! @pamsponderings Thanks for taking the time to reply! I agree with you about how limiting ourselves to only being “this” or “that” hampers the future of our profession. I’ve learned so much about how libraries have evolved and how to keep that momentum! Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

@maricarmen Thanks for you post! I would say I definitely think that the whole “libraries as classroom” concept can include everything you covered in your posting–independent learning, collaborative learning, as well as one-on-one education provided by librarians. To rule any one of these (or others) out and say we, as a library district. are only “this” or “that” goes against what we have been learning in this class, as well as what I believe professionally. Thank you for bringing this subject up and opening this thread. If there is one thing I have realizded throughout this class, it is that libraries are constantly evolving and we need to change with the times and provide what our communities want and need.

@maricarmen This entire last paragraph is SO GREAT:
“Overall, positioning the library as a space for storytelling can strengthen its space in the community. Storytelling can be personal, it can be fun, it can be therapeutic, and so on; offering these services and programs is an innovative way for the library to serve its community.”
I 100% agree.
