I saw the title of this report and knew I wanted to read it! I love these kinds of programs, and this was well executed. I love how you discuss how patrons would enjoy this and that it can be a good ice-breaker. Many people don’t see the value in leisure activities. Having fun should be valuable enough. However, there are so many more benefits than just that. I did a whole project one semester about the benefits of DND in libraries. It helped with a lot, including mental health, problem-solving, and public speaking. Thank you for sharing, George!!
Thanks, Tessa! I LOVE ttrpgs like D&D and I’m so glad to hear you found something healing in them. Really appreciate the kind words, all the best!
@grafzepp Nice job getting the work done. The Inspiration report looks great! Our library just started loaning out games two years ago and they have been really popular. I am hoping to play Wingspan someday. I hear it’s pretty good.
Thank you so much! Wingspan is a really interesting game and a lot of folks really enjoy it. There are some really great games of all sorts so I’m confident you’ll find more than one something that really speaks to you!
Updated 12/9 with a couple of typo fixes and photo credits added.
I absolutely love this idea–so unique! And what a great time to introduce this idea, with DnD becoming popularized in the mainstream because of the show Stranger Things. Board games area also a great way to encourage critical thinking skills and patience in children and teens. The table top gaming is what I found most interesting about this idea, though. I think encouraging the growth of this gaming community would be so beneficial to youth and adults alike. Great presentation!
Thank you, Krista! I agree and your point about patience is a great emphasis – we all learn those kinds of skills within a context, and playing games is a great place to do so. Cheers!
